Welcome to ACE

ACE is an international research initiative that has grown out of the ANTOSTRAT (ANTarctic Offshore STRATigraphy) project. ANTOSTRAT orginated in 1990 as an offshoot project of the Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research (SCAR) Group of Specialists on the Evolution of Cenozoic Paleoenvironments of the Southern High Latitudes. The ANTOSTRAT program officially came to an end in July 2002. The goal of ACE is to continue the study of Antarctic climate and glacial history through paleoclimate and ice sheet modeling studies, purposefully integrated with geological investigations of the proxy record of ancient Antarctic climates and ice sheets. ACE is now an official SCAR program. A more complete introduction to ACE can be found here.

Meetings & Events

upcoming:

TBA

past:

At the SCAR29 Meeting in Hobart, Tasmania, the ACE Steering Group meeting, no. 3 was held starting at 6pm on Tuesday, 12 July 2006.
View the
meeting agenda.

At the AGU Fall Meeting 2005, the ACE Steering Group meeting, no. 2 was held from 2pm-6pm on Wednesday, 7 December 2005 in The Argent Hotel Civic Room, San Francisco.
View the meeting agenda and the minutes (with ACTION items).

ACE co-sponsored a workshop on East Antarctica, entitled, Cenozoic onshore and offshore stratigraphic record from the East Antarctic margin: recent results and future directions.
The workshop took place on
September 18-20 2005, in Spoleto, Italy.
The aim of the workshop was to synthesize existing knowledge about the evolution of the East Antarctic Ice Sheet, to define future lines of research, and to develop collaborations to integrate the data already collected and for collecting new data during future cruises.
Click for the new Workshop Report and the workshop advertisement.

ACE co-sponsored an International Conference on Glacial Sedimentary Processes and Products.
It w
as held at the University of Wales in Aberystwyth, 22-27 August 2005.
The goal of this conference
was to promote dialogue between researchers in the fields of contemporary glacial processes, glacial sedimentology and ice sheet modelling in order to advance these fields in an integrated way. There was an ACE-specific meeting here on Friday, 26 August 2005.
See the conference website and the ACE items to be discussed.

At the European Geosciences Union (EGU) General Assembly 2005 held in Vienna, Austria on 24-29 April, there was a cryospheric sciences programme featuring an
Antarctic cryosphere and Southern Ocean climate evolution (Cenozoic-Holocene)
session, with co-conveners F. Florindo and R. Gersonde.
See the programme website
for more information (scroll down to session #CL28).

Also at the EGU General Assembly, the ACE Steering Group meeting, no. 1 was held on Wednesday, 25 April 2005 in Le Meridien Hotel, Opernring 13-15 Vienna.
View the meeting agenda and the minutes (with ACTION items).

The ACE Paleoclimate and Ice-Sheet Modeling Workshop
took place in Northampton, Massachusetts on May 31-June 2, 2002. View the Workshop Report.
